Geologic Techno: Dance with the Earth Beat

is a workshop where you can learn street dancing to the sound of techno music made of seismic waves from remote places. The music, created by converting inaudible earthquake waves data into sounds, is an infinite extension of physicality that allows you to virtually experience a specific place and environment. This series of workshops presents ways of understanding and exploring ways to move your body to the music which lead to a more active listening experience. Consisting of five sessions, the workshops begin with an introduction on the understanding of earthquakes and are followed by movement and costume making workshops. In a final live event, open to the public, the participants share their learning experiences.

지질학적 테크노: 땅의 비트로 춤추라

는 직접 갈 수 없는 장소의 지진파로 만든 테크노 음악에 맞춰 스트릿댄스를 배우는 워크숍입니다. 들을 수 없는 지진파 정보를 가청영역대의 ‘음파’로 전환해서 만들어진 테크노 음원은 특정 장소와 환경을 가상으로 경험하게 하는 무한한 신체적 확장을 위한 도구가 됩니다. 음악에 맞춰 나의 몸을 움직이는 방법을 이해하고 찾아가는 시간은 더욱더 능동적인 청취의 경험을 선사하게 될 예정입니다. 총 5회차로 이루어진 본 워크숍은 지진에 관한 이해, 움직임 워크숍, 의상 만들기 워크숍을 거쳐 워크숍 참여자들이 자신의 경험을 직접 나누는 라이브 행사까지 단계로 구성되어 있습니다

The exhibition space within the square partially embraces a curved geological zone created by a geological phenomenon, featuring a contour-shaped shelf that encompasses a section of Mt. Paldal where granite has vertically intruded. The region of Suwon is geologically composed of the biotite granite zone uplifted in the Mesozoic era, and the alluvial layer deposited in the Cenozoic era. As the area around Suwon Museum of Art and Mt. Paldal belongs to the biotite granite zone. The pink cross-shaped signs on the floor use the red color to indicate rocks formed by heat, while the cross represents granite. The contour-shaped shelf showcases geologic bread and arranges rocks formed in accordance with altitude, from the ocean floor to the galaxy. Although inedible bread is displayed in the exhibition space, through the Saturday Bakery, participants engage in various geologic baking workshops and share the bread baked in the workshops with the visitors. Activities include baking bread that reflects the geological features of the Suwon region, crafting their own universe with Gonggal (empty inside) bread, and creating wearable bread. Through the art of baking, participants grasp the geological phenomena of the region and further strive to encounter the familiarities from a fresh perspective.



스퀘어 속 전시장은 지질현상으로 만들어진 곡선의 지질대를 부분적으로 품고 있는 형태로, 등고선 모양의 선반은 화강암이 수직으로 융기한 팔달산 줄기 일부를 품고 있다. 수원지역은 지질학적으로 중생대 융기한 흑운모화강암지대와 신생대 퇴적한 충적층으로 구성되어 있다. 팔달산을 비롯한 수원시립미술관 일대는 흑운모화강암지대로, 바닥에 표시된 + 핑크색 십자모양의 기호의 붉은 색깔은 열에 의해 형성된 암석임을 표시하고, 십자는 화강암을 의미한다. 등고선 선반에는 지질학적 빵들이 자리하는데 해저부터 은하까지 고도에 따라 생성되는 암석들을 배치하였다. 전시장에는 먹을 수 없는 빵들이 진열되어 있지만, 토요 베이커리에서는 참여자들과 함께 다양한 지질학적 베이킹 워크숍을 진행하고, 워크숍에서 만들어진 빵을 관객과 나눠 먹을 수 있다. 수원지역의 지질학적 특성을 담은 빵 만들기, 공갈빵으로 자신만의 우주 만들기, 착용하는 빵 만들기 등 베이킹으로 지역의 지질현상을, 이해하고 나아가 익숙한 것을 새롭게 마주하는 방법을 빵 만들기로 시도해 본다.

The workshop attempts to analyze the geological formations around Tap-dong Citizen's Farm at Suwon city, then bake with their own recipes based on interpretation. Dr. Lee Dong-ju, Natural ecologist who is invited as a special guest talks about the movement of nitrogen in the life cycle and the potatoes that breathe in the soil of a space planet.

‘An Angels at My Table’ assimilate a small subject endowed with meaning, likely to be placed on someone's table, to an 'angel'. Angels who have passed through the hands and hearts of the artist face each other and fill the gallery. The 'angel' that leads to the collection through purchase and moves to someone else's ‘table. The various form of angels will make unique relationship in the environment of the new owner, and create a special landscape in their life without any hierarchy beyond the narrative context.
 ‘내 책상 위의 천사’는 누군가의 책상 위에 놓일 법한, 의미를 부여한 작은 주체를 ‘천사’에 비유한다. 예술가의 손과 마음을 거친 천사들이 어깨를 마주하고 서로를 바라보며 전시장을 가득 채운다. 구매를 통해 소장으로 이어지는 ‘천사'는 전시장을 방문하는 관객의 선택을 받아 누군가의 다른 ‘책상’으로 거처를 옮기게 된다. 다채로운 형상의 ‘천사’는 새로운 소장자의 환경에서 또 다른 고유한 관계를 맺으며, 서사적 맥락을 넘어 어떠한 위계를 가지지 않고 그의 삶 속에서 특별한 풍경을 자아낼 것이다.

The title "A Super Modern Project," raises paradoxical questions about the perception of "modernity" that has become common opinion. Through works that critically dismantle the abstractions of generalized perceptions and concepts, a reality of the specificity and individuality of this phenomena concealed in universality is revealed.
The project seeks to produce diversity and openness in an individual atmosphere.
It focuses on the creativity the artist’s "sub"- culture catalyzes and creates through the works presented in a "super modern" attitude.

The title, Say It with Flowers, reflects each other's geographical environment and recent history, and puts forward a paradoxical slogan, "Express your heart with flowers," or "There is nothing you can't say through flowers."
In a way, we try to approach creative exchanges and rich contexts that go beyond tough regional characteristics.

이 프로젝트의 제목인 ‘꽃으로 말하라 Say it with Flowers’ 는 양국의 지리적인 환경과 근대사를 반영하며, ‘속마음을 꽃으로 표현하라’ 즉, ‘꽃을 통하여 말할 수 없는 것은 없다.’라는 역설적인 슬로건을 내세운다. 전시, 워크숍, 퍼포먼스, 리서치 등을 수행되는 각 작업의 내러티브, 역사, 지역성과 동시대 예술에 관한 견해를 공유한다. 또한 역사, 인공물, 생명체, 전통, 공동체, 지역적 정체성, 민속에 새로운 전망을 상호 제안하며 세계와의 관계를 재설정한다.

The meories of volcano


Indonesia is the country with the most volcanoes in the world. Yogyakarta is a city located behind Merapi Volcano which one of the most active volcano in Indonesia. Therefore each of its residents has their own memories of the volcano. This workshop was held to share the memories of each own and make bread with the local ingredients about the volcano based on the memories.

화산의 기억


인도네시아는 전세계에서 화산이 가장 많은 국가다. 그중에서도 족자카르타는 가장 활발히 활동화는 활화산 머라피 화산을 등뒤에 두고 위치한 도시로, 거주인들은 저마다 각자의 화산에 관한 기억을 품고 있다. 그 기억들을 나누고, 로컬 재료를 이용해 기억을 토대로 화산에 관한 빵을 만들어 보는 워크샵을 진행하였다.

Ruang Magma


Andeath visited Mt. Merapi and Mt. Bromo on Java Island this time. Based on this research, she attempts to make an installation work using sourdough starter related to volcano. ‘Ruang’ means ‘room’ in Indonesian. Just as magma room exists below a volcano, this magma room is installed in one of the room of the Ruang Mes 56. The starter in the bottle is goint to be fermented gradually then erupt inside and outside of the room through the tubes.

머라피화산과 브로모화산을 방문한 작가는, 이번 리서치를 바탕으로 화산과 관련하여 스타터를 이용한 설치작업을 시도한다. ‘Ruang’은 인도네시아어로 ‘방'이란 뜻으로 화산에도 마그마방이 존재하듯, 루앙메스56의 방 한곳에 마그마 방을 설치한다. 점점 발효되는 스타터는 튜브관을 통해 방의 안과 밖 곳곳에서 분출 될 것이다.

you could often hear news about earthquake somewhere around the world even if you don’t keep an eye on it. Earthquake is considered misfortune or disaster but in fact, it is also good signal that the earth is still moving and working hard.
The epidemic made the boundaries between countries and cities clearer during the covid-19 pandemic period. By the way from the point of view of the earth, the boundaries between cities or countries are meaningless.
〈Geological Techno: Listen to the Beat of the Earth〉 is an open research program that produces techno music by replacing seismic waves which is collaborated with DJ zeemen, DJ xanexx. You can travel the city beyond the border with electronic music while feeling the vibration of the ground somewhere hard to reach in Seoul with techno beats!

잊을만 하면 어디선가 지진에 대한 뉴스가 들려온다. 지진은 어딘가의 불행 혹은 재난으로 여겨지지만, 사실 지구가 여전히 움직이고 열심히 활동하고 있다는 반가운 소식이기도 하다. 지구의 입장에서 도시나 국가간의 경계는 무의미하다. 그러나 전염병은 국가와 도시간의 경계를 더욱 명확하게 만들었다.
〈지질학적 테크노: 땅의 비트를 들어라〉는 지진을 감지하고 측정하는 지진파를 가청영역인 음파로 치환하여 테크노 음악을 생산하는 오픈 리서치 프로그램으로 DJ zeemen, DJ xanexx와 협력하여 테크노 음악을 제작하였다. 서울에서 닿기 힘든 어딘가의 땅의 진동을 테크노 비트로 감각하면서 경계 너머의 도시를 전자음악으로 여행해보자!

The Taste of
Choji-dong


It traces The geologic history of Choji-dong, where the Gyeonggi Museum of Art is located, based on the marine geological characteristics of the west coast, where the tidal difference is stark, the history of reclamation along the west coast, and the bedrock formed in the Precambrian period.
Research about geology of this area by Baking and tasting bread contaning the characteristics of the Choji-dong area, which is composed of sedimentary rocks, tidal flats, salt farms, and landfills.

경기도미술관이 위치한 안산시 단원구 초지동 일대가 지리학적으로 지금의 모습이 되기까지 어떤 변화의 과정이 있었을까? 조수간만의 차가 극명한 서해안 일대의 해양지질학적 특성, 국토개발의 일환으로 바다가 토지가 된 간척의 역사, 선캄브리아시대에 형성된 기반암 등을 배경으로 초지동의 지질학적 변천사를 추적한다. 퇴적암, 갯벌, 염전, 매립지 등으로 구성되어 있는 초지동일대의 특성을 담고 있는 빵을 만들고 먹어보며, 지역의 지질학적 특성을 베이킹으로 알아본다.
